Attentive to detail, to the seemingly insignificant, to ordinary events, Marguerite Bornhauser offers us a unique vision of the world, revealing the poetry hidden within our everyday lives. Through her works, she creates fictional snapshots that deceive the eye, transporting us to another place—one that is often much closer than we realize.

Taking a completely different approach from classical representation, close-ups, off-center framing, and textures take center stage. Isn't the artist's primary intention to look at something other than the main subject? The curve of a back, the grain of foliage, or reflections on water lose their formal definition, becoming motifs in a free and new narrative, like a melody. "What is the color, when black is burned?" chants Neil Young in "I Am a Child," which lends its title to the series. Like the child in the song, Marguerite Bornhauser questions what becomes of color, or rather light, when it is burned. Whether in her color, black and white, or negative photographs, black takes on the subtle texture of ink, offering a chiaroscuro vision of the world.

In the exhibition, threads are woven between the images, like fragments of a film from which each viewer can imagine their own scenario. A clever mise en abyme, since the artist specifically highlights the moving image in the final room of the exhibition, through a new video installation.
