For his first solo exhibition in Paris, Portuguese artist Vasco Mourão invites you on an urban and poetic journey through the Porte B gallery. From New York to Tokyo, by way of Paris and Hong Kong, he captures the striking beauty and complexity of major metropolises. A seasoned traveler and lover of architecture, Vasco Mourão speaks to us of the emblematic cities that have shaped his journey: his ink drawings on paper, metal, and marble offer an intimate vision of dwellings, revealing the details of buildings, their light, their forms, their textures. Caught in the continuous flow of endlessly repeated building patterns, his drawings vibrate with a strange sense of movement. The human figure, most often absent, sometimes appears as anonymous individuals sketched on inanimate facades. A way for the artist to give the city back its soul, its identity. With mastery of composition and meticulous technique, Vasco Mourão creates works that are both striking and subtle, capturing the spirit of cities while leaving enough space for the observer to imagine and contemplate.
