It's a very beautiful day - Pierre & Florent

PIERRE ET FLORENT ARLES EXPOSITION PORTE B

As part of the 2025 Off Festival of the Rencontres d’Arles, the gallery Porte B.  is pleased to invite you to the solo exhibition of the duo Pierre & Florent, It’s a very beautiful day.

Created during an artistic residency in the Hiroshima prefecture in the fall of 2024, this series extends their sensitive exploration of places of memory, begun in 2024 with Champ de foire, portraits of descendants of the Oradour-sur-Glane massacre. This work profoundly changed their relationship with traumatic memory and continues to inform their approach to documentary images.

In Hiroshima, Pierre & Florent were not expecting anything. But as soon as they leave the station, a chill runs through them. They look up: an immense sky, a blue of a depth almost unsettling. This sky, motionless and indifferent, is a witness to a past that is always vibrant.

On October 13, 2024, they capture this sky, at the Peace Memorial Park, where flowers replace bombs, where everyday life rubs shoulders with the shadows of the past. These suspended images, embroidered with fragments of indigo, make up It’s a very beautiful day.

A title borrowed from the words of the co-pilot of the Enola Gay in his journal on August 6, 1945. A terrible sentence in its banality. A phrase that, 50 years later, is echoed by Yoko Ono's voice: "Hiroshima Sky is Always Blue."
