The Porte B. gallery is pleased to host Half, a solo show by Tiffany Bouelle, this autumn.

Inspired by her two-month residency in Japan, this exhibition is a tribute to her dual culture and the strength that emerges from its antagonisms. Half, half Japanese – half French, half modest – half audacious, half winter – half summer, half militant, disciplined, rebellious, submissive, free… Half is the name given to her in Japan in light of these two cultures that both attract and oppose each other.

The artist has drawn on his roots and his meticulous calligraphic technique for a new strength that is expressed through otherness. The precision of the gesture is matched by the abundance of forms, the flat planes of warm and cool colors, and the light that sometimes emerges against broad black or white backgrounds.

This duality is expressed for the artist in the very act of painting, in this physical engagement with the canvas that liberates language. The work of art as a confession of the mind upon matter, a reconciliation.
