The exhibition "Empreinte(s)," held at the Porte B. gallery from February 6 to March 1, 2025, brings together the work of eight artists at the intersection of art and craft. Combining different techniques, materials, and skills, the works highlight the importance of the artisan's touch in contemporary creation. Between heritage and innovation, reuse and creation, it offers a reflection on the transposition of the finished product into a work of art through its singularity and presentation.
Janique Bourget, through her relief drawings sculpted in paper, invites us to rediscover a material often perceived as fragile, which she pushes to its limits. Her works, suspended and weightless, reveal organic and vibrant forms. Her collaboration with Alice Lebourg, a glassblower, has given rise to a monumental installation where the fusion of paper and glass testifies to the beauty of the creative process, a subtle interplay between disappearance and reminiscence. In a more textile-oriented vein, Victoria Tanto explores the repetition of gesture as a creative principle. Her pieces, composed of twisted and embroidered threads, generate fascinating textures and volumes, where technique blends with intuition, giving each piece a unique and emotive dimension. It is a tribute to the craftsmanship and patience of artisanal work. Tiffany Bouelle, a French-Japanese artist, engages in a meticulous process where writing, drawing, and line become acts of reclaiming body and mind. Her painted noren—traditional Japanese curtains—are experienced as an invitation to travel, symbolizing the passage between two states of consciousness. Her work questions the notion of support and transcends boundaries between painting, textiles, and sculpture. Marion Flament draws inspiration from materials, light, and the places around her to create installations, sculptures, and images that transform our perception of time and space. Through trompe-l'œil and visual distortion, she reveals the strangeness of the everyday and illuminates the memory of places by inscribing historical and architectural elements within them. In the exhibition Empreinte(s), she presents a series of glazed ceramic rosaries created for La Samaritaine department store. Her vines, inspired by the building's Art Nouveau decor, embody this dialogue between artisanal craftsmanship and the history of the place. Giulia Zanvit, sensitive to nature, transforms humble materials she gathers from her surroundings into works imbued with poetry. Her creations, which span painting, sculpture, and installation, celebrate the beauty of simple gestures and the intuition of the creator. In the exhibition "Empreinte(s)" (Imprint(s)), she unveils new pieces, such as papier-mâché and seashell light fixtures, and giant sculptures in redwood, true tributes to nature. Finally, Alice Roux and Mattia Listoski explore materials in innovative forms, blending concrete and resin in collaborative works that embody their respective artistic universes. Their creations, at the crossroads of design, architecture, and graphic art, offer a fresh perspective on the relationship between matter and form, in a balancing act between strength and lightness.
Empreinte(s) is an exhibition that, through its diversity and richness, invites us to rediscover the infinite potential of the artisanal gesture in contemporary art. Through these works, each artist reveals a unique approach to the material, the gesture, and the creation process, constantly questioning the boundaries between art and craft.
