Porte B. Gallery is pleased to host Half this fall, a solo show by Tiffany Bouelle.

Inspired by her two-month residency in Japan, this exhibition is a tribute to her dual culture and the strength that emerges from her antagonisms. Half, half Japanese – half French, half modest – half bold, half winter – half summer, half militant, disciplined, rebellious, submissive, free… Half, is the name given to her in Japan in light of these two cultures that attract and oppose each other at the same time.

The artist has drawn from his roots and his meticulous technique of calligraphy a new force that is expressed through otherness. The precision of the gesture responds to the abundance of forms, flat areas of warm and cold colors, light that is sometimes revealed on large black or white backgrounds.

This duality is expressed for the artist in the very act of painting, in this physical engagement that is tied to the canvas and frees language. The work of art as a confession of the mind on matter, a conciliation.
