Giulia Zanvit
Giulia Zanvit lives and works between Lyon and Générargues in the Cévennes. A multidisciplinary visual artist, her work is nourished by her relationship with nature. A sensitive, humble, devoted, almost sacred relationship.
Through her paintings, sculptures, collages and installations, the artist recycles materials and pieces of nature that she gleans from her usual escapades. A free spirit, a wild soul in perpetual quest for beauty without artifice, Giulia Zanvit strives to reveal the poetry of the moment, the beauty of the simple gesture, the purity of intention.
His works are like an initiatory journey, a reconquest of the world around us, a tribute to the living. In her practice, there is first the gaze that settles and focuses, then the instinctive gesture of the child who picks up a pebble at the water's edge or a stick in the forest. This collection will later serve for a work that the artist creates effortlessly and through which the object, the "poor" material, deploys all its nobility. The real work for Giulia thus lies in knowing how to observe, consider, marvel at a nothing that takes on the appearance of a whole.
For the exhibition Matières Primaires, the artist has chosen to present some of his latest creations, including a drawing from the Attraversare series. A fragment of a landscape or an immersive journey to the heart of matter, this work evokes the resonance between microscopic and macroscopic forms present in nature. In Kappuru, the pair of stoneware vases are presented in the manner of Japanese Ikebana. The content – Milk Thistle or Silver Basket – becomes as important as its container. And then there is the series of Guardians, these strange spirits whose animal or humanoid form seems so familiar to us. If the deceptive paper takes on the appearance of stone, the work is nevertheless distinguished by its delicate, light and immutable form.
