Daniel Bourgais

Daniel Bourgais currently lives in Montrouge and works in Paris. Drawing, observation and walking are habits that Daniel quickly adopted. His view of nature and the city led him to question our way of understanding a defined environment. This is why he chose to train as an architect at ENSA Normandie (Rouen) where he refined his perception of the link between architecture, landscape and the question of the environment. During his studies, he developed a particular sensitivity for the rehabilitation of existing buildings, ruins, landscape and art. His final diploma triggered in him a desire to link and extend a global reflection on the relationship between Man and Nature.

As part of the GARDEN PARTY exhibition, Daniel Bourgais presents several installations that bring together fragments of landscapes traveled in France during the summer season. The Valgaudemar summer 2021 series is a capture of a moment of sunbathing at the top of the mountain at an altitude of 2090 m. After the effort of the ascent, the body is sucked in by the freshness of the lake and the vibrations of the colors. In his practice, Daniel uses photogrammetry, a measurement technique that consists of determining the shape, dimensions and situation of an object in space from several photographic shots of this object. The image thus obtained and processed is printed before being highlighted in a light box, or a negatoscope. The fragments of landscape captured by the artist's eye are thus transformed into natural settings within the exhibition, offering a moment of suspended contemplation.
