Eri Maeda
Eri Maeda is a Japanese visual artist based in Paris, where she develops a distinctive sculptural practice by working with stoneware using traditional hand-building techniques. Her works, characterized by surreal forms and vibrant glazes, explore themes of shame, taboos, and gendered expectations rooted in her upbringing.

Through her sculptures, Maeda reimagines everyday objects by transforming them into strange hybrids, reminiscent of fantastical creatures, playing on the ambiguity between the familiar and the uncanny. Her approach oscillates between humor and social critique, challenging the unspoken norms that shape culture and influence the perception of domestic symbols. By subverting these objects, she imbues them with a subversive energy, revealing the underlying tensions between constraint and emancipation.

Exhibited in cities such as Milan, London, and Tokyo, her work resonates far beyond cultural boundaries, raising universal questions about identity, the invisible forces that shape it, and the power dynamics embedded in everyday objects.
